Why are there no cool NON-plug-in hybrids

My mom drives an ES300h. It’s extremely comfortable and very fuel efficient. It’s also the coolest (ok, least uncool) normal hybrid sedan available.

We can afford to buy her something more expensive (aka, Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid) but my Mom is incapable of charging an electric device. Plug in hybrids are a deal-breaker.

So why does nobody make a luxurious regular hybrid that’s also cool? And why has nobody invented a wireless charging method, so you can recharge anywhere in the driveway (b/c the garage is obviously full of random crap).

Kinja'd!!!

Fuck those charging cords

you dont have to plug in a PIH....you can run it off the gas and use regenerative braking.

the PIH is just an option.

This. Plugging it in just extends its EV only range.

Wasn’t there also a non-plug in version of the Panamera hybrid?

Oh, and the LaFerrari doesn’t have a plug, either, AFAIK.

And, there are aftermarket wireless charging solutions - IIRC Plugless is the popular one.

Although, not plugging in a PHEV is a bit silly, unless you’re doing a lot of mountain descending, or you get HOV access (but then you’re missing the point of PHEVs being granted HOV access).

Incorrect. Its just in a really dumb place, like all the other 2 hyper cars.

God I can’t stand how all 3 of the “Holy Trinity” have their plugs up top like that. You have to have something to protect the car from the cord everytime you plug in. Also with fill ups, try your best not to spill/drip anything.

Oh, didn’t realize that. Well her birthday is tomorrow, so My dad and I might need to do some last minute Porsche shopping!

Wireless charging is less efficient than wired charging. This isn’t a big deal for phones since they don’t use that much energy anyway, but having that much loss in a car is stupid.

And surprisingly, when I had a Fusion PHEV as a loaner, the brake regeneration did a great job in the city. I ran it almost solely on electric power for a week, never plugging it in.

Mercedes used to build the E400 and S400 hybrids, previous generations though.

Even if they’re good cars, my Mom will never buy another Mercedes after her lemon 01' ML430. And realistically, she’s looking for a 40mpg headline figure (which pretty much rules out anything cool).

As for me, I’d happily drive a V12 S-Class from that era (until I go broke)!
